Submission Guidelines

HOW TO APPLY

  1. Register and apply On-Line using Pixar’s Career site at Pixar.com.

  2. Ensure that you have agreed to the Terms at the end of the on-line application. You will not be able to continue without this affirmation.  By agreeing, you are agreeing to the terms of the Submission Release. A sample of the language of this release can be found below.

  3. Once you have completed your application, please follow the specific instructions on how to submit your material. Please note: Some positions will require you to upload your demo reel while others will ask that you send your demo reel and/or portfolio via mail. Please refer to the specific job description for submission requirements. For positions asking you to upload your material, you will need to upload your reel/portfolio via the My Career Tools - Cover Letters & Attachments Link of your profile's Careers Home Page. If you're applying for a position requiring you to mail in a sample flatwork portfolio and/or dvd demo reel, you will still need to complete the on line application process and agree to the terms of the submission release policy.

  4. When applying for any position, regardless if you'll be sending or uploading your material, you must complete the on line application process. This includes uploading your resume and cover letter and agreeing to the terms of the submission release policy.

  5. You will receive an email acknowledging the successful receipt of your application. We will then contact you if there is an interest in speaking with you further. No phone calls, please!

GUIDELINES FOR UPLOADING YOUR PORTFOLIO OR REEL

  1. If the job description asks that you upload a reel, you must upload your reel using our jobs site.

  2. Please upload only materials that are approved for release. Animators can include all traditional work (life drawings, pencil tests, etc.) on a reel.

  3. Reels should be a QuickTime movie adhering to the following desired format:

    1.  DVD/video res (720x480 or 640x480)
    2. Apple Sorenson codec or mp4 with a ".mov" extension
    3. Must be under 50MB
    4. File name should be #lastnamefirstinitial#_reel.mov.

  4. Please include a Demo Reel Breakdown explaining what you did on your reel and describing any software used to achieve the effects. This credit list must also be uploaded as a pdf file and entitled #lastnamefirstinitial#_creditlist.pdf. The upload can also be performed via the My Career Tools -Cover Letters & Attachments Link of your profile’s Careers Home Page.

  5. We advise that you upload your reel with a high speed connection. Note that it can take upwards of 30 minutes to upload a 50MB file over a standard 128kbps (upload speed) DSL line. Also note that you will see a flashing “Processing” on the upper right hand side of the page while your file is uploading.

SUBMISSION RELEASE (Sample)

By clicking I Agree, you are agreeing with the following terms concerning your submission of materials (your “Portfolio Submissions”) to Pixar. You understand that, to protect our creative development process, Pixar will not review materials submitted for employment evaluation unless the submitter agrees to these release terms. You represent and warrant that your Portfolio Submissions are original to you and do not violate the rights of any other party.

You acknowledge that Pixar may be developing materials that are similar or identical to your Portfolio Submissions and that Pixar will have no obligation of any kind to you concerning those materials if Pixar has created, developed or acquired them independently without reference to your Portfolio Submissions. You further agree that Pixar shall have the same rights as any member of the general public to any public domain materials contained in your Portfolio Submissions.

You agree to submit any dispute concerning this release or Pixar’s use of your Portfolio Submissions to binding arbitration in the City and County of San Francisco, California in accordance with the commercial arbitration rules of the American Arbitration Association.

You agree that any arbitration award favorable to you shall be limited to a monetary amount that does not exceed the fair market value, as of the date of this release, of the protected portion of the Submission Materials that are the subject of the award.

You acknowledge and agree that you shall in no event have any right to seek injunctive relief to restrict the development or distribution of any Pixar production. You agree that this release is freely assignable by Pixar.

YOU ACKNOWLEDGE AND AGREE THAT YOU HAVE READ AND UNDERSTOOD THE TERMS OF THIS RELEASE AND THAT THIS RELEASE CONTAINS OUR COMPLETE UNDERSTANDING CONCERNING PIXAR’S LIABILITY IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR PORTFOLIO SUBMISSIONS.
