spacer"Computer graphics has always been my life-long passion. There are of course tons of companies out there that are part of the graphics  industry. However, what sets Pixar apart from the rest is the extremely cool working culture(it's actually very fun to work at  Pixar!). I've been really impressed by how Pixar actually cares about what you want to do and tries to match you up with a job that falls within the realm of your interests. The other thing that is really exciting about Pixar is the fact that we're always pushing the envelope in terms of technology. I think Pixar is one of the few animation companies out there with its own R&D group. Coming out from a research group right after school, I found myself fitting into the Pixar culture easily since it has a great mix of academics and people with industry experience (I've met people who wrote Houdini and Softimage). Any company out there can throw a bunch of fancy perks at you (free snacks, drinks etc.) However, I don't think many of those companies actually make an effort to match you up with something you actually want to do. Having said that, the perks at Pixar are fantastic!"

spacer"I was lucky enough to get the internship right after graduating from college.  I met so many great people, both employees and other interns that summer, it seemed like it was as much fun as it was hard work.  One of the best things about being an intern at Pixar is that you are surrounded by people who are super talented and have common goals, like strong work ethic and high expectations of themselves.  My fondest memory of the internship is taking second place in a cupcake eating contest as part of our welcome to the department.  It was a great introduction to the animation crew and the cupcakes were delicious.  My favorite experience at Pixar is driving through the gate every morning: I still get excited that I am working here.  I can't think of a more rewarding and enjoyable place to work."

spacer"I think if any single reason were to percolate to the top of my list it would be that Pixar offers views into two different industries: film and software - which is pretty hard to get from the usual software job. Along the same lines, other studios don't seem to do as serious software work, so its a great place for a computer graphics software geek like me.  Also, the work environment played a big role. Pixar is not a gloomy cubicle farm like so many companies (seen Office Space?) but a bright, happy place full of well adjusted people. Though this company is older than I am, I feel like it has retained a vibrant, youthful spirit."

spacer"To be honest, as an intern the whole experience itself was simply unforgettable. There is simply no better way to understand the whole spirit of working in this incredible company. As an intern, I got to work alongside some of the top people in the industry, people whom I've been admiring for many years before working here, and who just happen to be the most helpful and approachable mentors one could ever hope to have at a workplace. The sheer spirit of collaboration at Pixar always brings me a smile each day: every person is willing to teach you, but also to listen and learn from you. It is truly remarkable and helps to build this collective creative energy that is an inspiration and motivation at every moment of my job.

A great thing that was organized while I was an intern, were the "intern lunches". We would have an hour or so for lunch talking to some of the top people at Pixar, including Ed Catmull. Sitting at lunch hearing Ed talking about his experience since starting Pixar many years ago and his vision about the culture of the company was truly unforgettable.

It's hard to pinpoint one single thing as my fondest memory at Pixar, as there are simply too many. I love the energy of the people here and the true friendships that build up from collaborating together in this creative space. Working on Cars and sitting with John Lasseter in a theatre, hearing him call the last final shot for the movie, was one of the most emotional moments I've experienced. The constant challenges that I have every week making sure there is never a dull moment at work. I'm working in lighting now, which has always been my long dream as a career, and there are no words to describe how I feel knowing that I am helping to create images that children and adults all over the world will connect with, will smile and laugh, and that for just that little bit of time, it will all be OK... and, of course, all the little unforgettable Pixar moments... those small things that make me smile every single time I drive up the entrance gate."

spacer"Just for fun:  The single biggest attraction to working at Pixar was and still is the cereal.  In our kitchen, we have like 25 different kinds of cereal.  I love cereal.  And as a graduate student I ate a lot of it.  And now to work in a place where I can have cereal any time of the day in as large a quantity as I can handle, I'd have thought I'd died and gone to heaven.

Okay, here's the real one. :)

Animation has been a longtime passion of mine.  I remember as a kid wishing I had been born in the first part of the 20th century so I could have worked for Disney during their Golden Age.  And in a way, that wish has been granted.  Pixar seems to be in the midst of their own golden age, making interesting, widely watched and visually stunning films, and that's a really exciting thing to be a part of.

The single biggest attraction to working at Pixar was and still is the movies. I love the films we make.  I studied film directing at UCLA in the graduate program and had the opportunity to work here one summer as an intern.  I loved the atmosphere, work environment, the energy of my co-workers, and hoped that I could find a way to come back once I was done with school."
