Toy Story 2 Becomes Second Highest Domestic Grossing Animated Feature

RICHMOND, Calif. - January 11, 2000 -- Pixar Animation Studios (NASDAQ: PIXR) announced today that the studio's third animated feature film, Toy Story 2, released in partnership with Walt Disney Pictures, has become the second highest grossing animated picture of all time in domestic release. Toy Story 2 passed the $217 million milestone this past Sunday, less than seven weeks after its release on November 24.

With the success of Toy Story 2, Pixar has now created half of the six top domestic grossing animated films of all time:

FILM CREATED BY YEAR DOMESTIC GROSS
1. The Lion King Disney 1994 $312
2. Toy Story 2 Pixar 1999 $220+ (still in release)
3. Aladdin Disney 1993 $217
4. Toy Story Pixar 1995 $192
5. Tarzan Disney 1999 $170
6. A Bug's Life Pixar 1998 $163

"Pixar has become one of the two major forces in animation today," said Steve Jobs, CEO of Pixar. "Pixar's unique storytelling combined with its pioneering 3D computer animation is clearly appealing to audiences of all ages."

"Toy Story 2 is the result of an amazing collaborative effort by the incredibly talented group we have here at Pixar," said John Lasseter, Pixar's Executive Vice President of Creative and the Director of Toy Story 2. "We are really excited that everyone loves this film as much as we do."

Created and produced by Pixar at its studios in the San Francisco Bay Area, Toy Story 2 has been breaking records since its November 24 release. The film's three-day opening gross of $57.4 million and five-day opening gross of $80.8 million are the highest opening grosses of any animated film in history.

Pixar Animation Studios combines creative and technical artistry to create original characters and stories in the new medium of computer animation. Pixar created and produced the first computer-animated feature film, the Academy Award winning Toy Story, released in 1995. Pixar has since released two more animated features: A Bug's Life, the highest grossing animated film released in 1998; and Toy Story 2, the highest grossing animated film released in 1999. The studio is currently in production on its fourth animated feature, Monsters, Inc., targeted for release in 2001.
