  • About The Film

    Since ancient times,

stories of epic battles and mystical legends have been passed through the generations across the rugged and mysterious Highlands of Scotland. From Disney and Pixar, a new tale joins the lore when the courageous Merida confronts tradition and challenges destiny to change her fate.

  • The Story

    In bringing Merida

and Elinor's story to life, directors Mark Andrews and Brenda Chapman drew inspiration not only from their own experiences as teenagers, but from their experiences as parents—in Chapman's case, from her relationship with her daughter, and in Andrews' case, from his relationship with his oldest daughter and three younger sons.

  • The Characters

    Brave introduces

a multitude of new characters to audiences, from the fiery princess Merida to the murderous bear Mor’du. When Merida’s mother, the dignified and elegant Queen Elinor, is transformed into a bear, mother and daughter must work together to find a way to reverse the spell, all the while attempting to placate feuding lords and avoid the kingdom’s most renowned bear hunter—King Fergus himself.

  • The World

    The film’s setting

in lush, wild Scotland was an essential source of inspiration. Recalls director Mark Andrews, “We went to the highest part of Scotland and the lowest part of Scotland—and everything had a story.”

  • Behind The Scenes

    Curly hair is notoriously

difficult to render in the computer, but Merida’s riotous red locks were so integral to her character that there was never any question of opting for something more subdued.  It took over a year to get the correct look.
